relationship credit scoreIn so many ways the amount of trust your partner has in you can either make or break your relationship.  I like to think of it as my relationship credit score, while it takes time and commitment to maintain healthy levels; it only takes once or twice to bring the whole thing crashing down- begging the question, what’s your relationship credit score?

If you’ve already broken the trust in your relationship, you’re going to have to fight tooth and nail to regain any sense of worthiness within your situation.  If you think it’s as easy as wiping the slate clean and starting over with a new person, bear in mind that breaking one’s trust can leave a stain on your reputation for years, if not your entire life. So, how does a person begin to regain trust once it has been broken?  Much like your credit score, it’s going to take a lot of hard work and dedication, but it can be done.  Here are some simple things you can do every day that will have you back in good standing in no time.

Improving Your Relationship Credit Score

Be Consistent

If you have wild mood swings or change the way you interact with your significant other frequently, it can cause instability in all aspects of your relationship.  Be confident and steadfast.  Show her you know what you want, and don’t allow your outside life to dictate how you treat your love.

Be a Man of Your Word

Telling your significant other that you’re going to “take care of it” and not following through is not going to give her the confidence that she can rely on you to do much of anything.  Plain and simple, a woman’s not going to judge you on what you say, but what you do.  If you don’t follow up your words with actions, than you’re no better than the boy who cried wolf, and soon the entire village won’t believe you.

Be Aware of Your Partner’s Feelings

Listen, sometimes you need to look past the fact that you feel your point of view is the correct one.  People will argue for petty reasons at times, but if the argument persists it’s a good indication that this particular issue means a lot to her.  Stay calm.  Explain to her that you realize this issue means a lot to her, and work on a compromise that will benefit you both.

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

We all have done things in our past that we’re not particularly proud of.  Let the past stay in the past.  Bringing up old wounds will never benefit your cause, and will only cause tensions to mount and put distance between the two of you.  Make the past untouchable. Set ground rules for your arguments specifically stating that neither party will open old wounds.  Focus less on where you’ve been a more on where you want to go.

Don’t let a few mistakes ruin your relationship credit score.  Be diligent in your efforts to maintain the trust, because when it comes down to it, it’s the most fundamental building block supporting your relationship today.

It’s something you can’t afford to lose.

Hi! My name is Sabatino and I’m a sappy romantic, a big teddy bear, I tear up at emotional parts of love stories, and I must be psychotic but I just can’t help myself! Ever want something or some one so badly that it’s all you can think about? Me too. I’m a hopeless romantic Italian in a world that seems to be quickly forgetting the art of romance. I'd die for family, I yearn to be a father, and I pine for unconditional love. It's okay, you're not alone.
