Any dating site worth a damn will always talk to you about your personal safety. Every dating site wants you to find romance and have along the way however here at Singles Warehouse we’re a big believer of safety first. That’s why when we had the chance to interview Dan from Checkon.me we literally tied him to a chair.
Dan, thanks for taking the time to meet with us. What a fantastic App. Can you tell our readers about it?
Hi thanks for having me. Our goal with Checkon.me is to provide an affordable and simple personal safety solution that can go with you anywhere. The App will alert a list of your own trusted contacts by email and SMS should you fail to check in within a set time. There is also an SOS mode if immediate help is needed. Many existing personal safety systems require the purchase of an expensive standalone device that can be carried with you and require a monthly subscription. Checkon.me runs on a users existing mobile phone making it really affordable (just 69p) and requires no subscriptions. The app is really useful in situations where someone might feel unsafe or vulnerable.
So it can be used for more than just online dating?
We have seen a huge variety of uses including social workers, students, climbers and night time commuters.
Sticking with online dating what inspired you to develop it?
Meeting a stranger always carries an element of risk but not everyone wants to announce to their friends that they are going on a date with someone they met online. We wanted to provide a solution that alerts a group of trusted contacts if there is a problem but doesn’t require any contact is everything goes OK.
Can you explain a little about how it works?
A user creates an alarm before their date with a description of what they are doing and select a check in time. If they fail to check in a list of up to five trusted contacts of their choosing are notified by email and SMS and given a map to their location. These trusted contacts can then check on the person to make sure that they are ok and contact the authorities if necessary.
Whats feedback been like so far?
Very positive – we had some great feedback from an expectant father who’s pregnant wife wanted some extra safety at home. We also had some great comments about the discreetness of the app while out on a date.
What did you find the hardest part about this project?
Finding the right balance between features and ease of use is always a challenge. We wanted to make the App super simple to use but at the same time make sure we provide the best possible experience.
Whats been the best bit?
Undoubtedly the user feedback has been our highlight. It is great to see our users benefiting from the service and lots of previously reluctant people giving online dating a go.
Whats next?
There are more features in the pipeline and we are working on a business version of Checkon.me to launch later in the year.
So there you have it ladies and gents – we think you’ll agree this is an amazing idea that deserves our support. Get Downloading!
