I often wonder how much one can get from reading someone’s dating profile. If you could anonymously interview a potential date before actually engaging with them, what type of questions would you ask? In these interviews I attempt to go where no dating profile can go, and help you get to know singles on a little bit deeper level.
In this post we’re talking with Ben J. Ivey, of Sydney Australia.
So Ben tell us a little something about you? What’s a typical day like?
Generally a typical day involves working Monday throu Friday 8:30am to 5pm doing back office admin for an international agribusiness company.
After work on Fridays, I might go out drinking with friends or just chill out at home watching a DVD etc. I also sing in a local youth church band.
Singing in a church band huh? I remember joining a church choir because all the pretty girls where there. (Lord forgive me) Are you part of a mass choir or are you more of a solo singer/musician?
It varies. At the moment I am a back up singer for the Sunday evening church service. I attend St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Wahroonga (www.standys.org.au).
I remember back when I was doing a lot of online dating, I was a bit of an introvert and socializing online helped me come out of my shell. What’s the online dating experience been like for you?
I have used RSVP which was great. Be Naughty : I used this website back in February 2011 for four months or so. I made contact with a number of girls located in Sydney Australia. One “women” I met whose name I have now forgotten turned out to be a guy in Nigeria. I fell for his scam and two others which were different “women” (guys in Nigeria).
On Facebook I had a similar story to BeNaughty.com. I received a random friends request and it was another scam.
As a result of all this, I closed my accounts and cancelled my debit card with my bank.
I am so sorry to hear that. I’ve made my share of mistakes online as well, and I believe as we share our stories we help the next person to steer clear of the pitfalls on the internet.
With all you’ve gone through with online dating, one would think your attitude towards it would be soured. I know many people have lost money or worse online who have been scared off, probably for good. But you are still at it. Why?
Once you can detect the scams they become easy to spot and delete. So it’s ok. Basically I have got nothing to lose so why not give it a go one more time.
Just so no one thinks online dating is all scams, let’s talk about something positive that’s happened for you.
I decided to post a dating advertisement on www.sydney.craigslist.com.au. I received a reply from a girl and we hit it off really well to the extent that she is actually moving to Sydney Australia from the USA.
Now that sounds promising. Good luck with your new found friendship and any future dating experiences. And thanks for sharing your story.
