Love and Marriage by Frank Sinatra – this song may be in your head for a little while!
Last weekend I attended a wedding so thought it fitting that I write about it! I haven’t been to a wedding for many many years – basically the last time I went to one, I was a child so can’t actually remember much about it apart from running around with my siblings and cousins and getting up to mischief! Come to think of it I might have been a bridesmaid. Yes, I was a bridesmaid!
Was there a lot of waiting around? Yes
Were there a few boring parts? Yes
Did I know anyone? Nope
Were the couple totally and utterly in love? I’d expect nothing less!
Until a few years ago I was adamant that I would never get married. Just the thought of being ‘dependant’ on one person for the rest of my life sounded like a nightmare and divorce rates were skyrocketing. As Grantley on Waterloo Road puts it “People say their vows jumping off a cliff and get divorced on the way back up” – made me laugh – and so what if I watch Waterloo Road – I’m single with nowt better to do! :p A few years on and I’m a sucker for anything wedding related. Four Weddings – yes please! Don’t Tell the Bride – when is it on? I love it. The cake, the rings, the venue, THE DRESS!
I was chuffed when I was asked to be Haylees plus one to her aunt’s wedding. I was so excited about witnessing two people declare to the world [well the room full of people] that they will love each other until the day they die. Yes, as cynical as I am about the whole marriage thing, I had a tear in my eye – it was so touching! Two people coming together and deciding that yes, they love each other and that there will never be anyone else EVER was truly magical! Oh god I sound like a right girl. Disney eat your heart out or what? I chuffing hate Disney!
Statistics say that marriages will end approximately 3 years after the big day. That was one of the reasons I decided I wouldn’t tie the knot. Marriage is supposed to last forever. My grandparents were married for nearly 50 years before my Grandma sadly passed away last year. In fact, next year would have been their Golden Anniversary. Their love for each other was immense and if anyone ever popped the question to me I would ask myself; do I see us together forever – literally?
The bride and groom are totally and utterly in love and their families go together like vodka
and coke. I believe that they will be together forever and have a long, beautiful, loving and happy life together! I hope they will and their families [who are now a very big family] seem to think so too!
It was a lovely day filled with love, laughter and happiness and I know their marriage will be too.
Slightly more serious for one of my posts but weddings – get you thinking don’t they?
Until next time

p.s there was some eye candy there too but I don’t think it would have been appropriate seeing as they were the groom’s sons… Mmmm… I mean Hmmm
